Mobile Information and Equipment Display Unit

The ILC Country Services will be visiting Northam and Dowerin in August 2008. Please view Itinerary for this trip.

Lotterywest has kindly agreed to sponsor the construction of a new off road trailer and we are also striving to replace the caravan that was destroyed by vandals burning it to the ground.

Please contact Chris Kingsnorth on 9381 0633 for more details.  The itinerary will be posted on the web at a later date.

The Mobile Information and Display Unit travels statewide to extend the services of the Perth based Independent Living Centre to people in rural and remote communities.

Our health professionals, including Occupational Therapists offer specialist information and advice on thousands of products from hundreds of suppliers. We aim to complement and work together with local health services and community organizations. Our services can include Education and Training Workshops.

The Mobile Unit is an 11 metre x 5 metre walk through caravan with ramped access for wheelchair users. The 500 items of selected equipment on display include electric scooters, wheelchairs, walking aids, special keyboards and software for computer access, communication devices, emergency call systems, seating options with customized chairs and back supports, ergonomic work station products, food preparation ideas and eating and drinking products, adapted recreation equipment, items for easier dressing, personal care and continence management, pressure care and transfer aids, manual handling equipment, building design and access information and much more. The caravan was destroyed by fire due to vandals but we will continue to deliver the service in a modified way until the replacement is ready, approximately the middle of 2008.

Visitors to the Mobile Unit can try out products on display, discuss problems and solutions with the Occupational Therapist and receive computer printouts not only of items on display but also any of the items in the ILC Database
.
