Dementia Education and Training for Carers
Service Description
The ILC Respite and Carelink centre aims to improve the quality of life of people living with dementia by supporting their carers in providing access to training and education to enhance their skills, or connecting the carer to key information.
Service Coverage
Education, Training and Information is available on the following topics for carers:
Legal issues
Advocacy
Managing behaviours of concern
Health and Wellbeing
Home making skills (cooking, car and home maintenance)
Understanding Dementia
Self care strategies (stress management)
Continence management
Communication
Computer and internet use
Personal Care
Respite care can be provided to care for the person living with dementia to enable the carer to attend the education or training session.
Who Can we Help? (Eligibility)
Carers and families of people living with dementia.
Fees
Respite centres encourage carers to contribute towards the cost of respite services if they are able to. However, no person will be denied a respite service if they are unable to contribute.
Funding
The Dementia Education and Training for Carers program is funded by the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA).
